U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean announced on May 11 that he will host the third event in his Path to Consensus Series, focusing on healthcare billing and utilization issues. The summit, titled “Denied, Delayed, Surprised: A Conversation on Billing and Utilization,” is scheduled for Friday, May 15 at the Longworth House Office Building in Washington.
The event aims to address ongoing challenges related to patient access, affordability, and transparency in healthcare. Lawmakers, policy experts, and industry leaders are expected to participate in two panel discussions that will explore ways to improve transparency and reduce administrative delays.
The first panel discussion is called “Arbitration, Adequacy, and Access: Stakeholder Perspectives on the ‘No Surprises Act.’” Panelists include Shayne Woods of Alpine Group (moderator), Ariel Bayewitz of Elevance Health, Garrett Hohimer of Business Group on Health, Patrick Velliky of HaloMD, and Dr. Adam Bruggeman of IndeMed. This session will take place from 1:05 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
A second session titled “Balancing Clinical Judgment and Cost Controls: Hospital and Insurer Perspectives on Prior Authorization” will follow from 2:05 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., moderated by Paul Hartman of bioMérieux with Jeanette Thornton from America’s Health Insurance Plans and Mary Mayhew from Florida Hospital Association as speakers.
Aaron Bean currently serves as U.S. Representative for Florida’s 4th district after replacing John Rutherford in 2023; he previously served in both chambers of the Florida legislature between 2000-2022 according to Congress. Bean was born in Fernandina Beach in 1967 where he still resides today according to Congress. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Jacksonville University in 1989 according to Congress.
