Jacksonville, FL—On Friday, April 28, 2023, Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04) held an awards ceremony at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) to announce the winners of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for Florida’s Fourth Congressional District. A total of 43 high school students from across the district submitted 77 artistic pieces for this year’s competition.

“Since the early days of our founding, art has been essential to the creation of America’s character. Even George Washington noted that it is the duty of every good citizen to encourage the arts,” said Congressman Bean. “These young artists submitted creative and impressive artwork that showcased just how talented our Northeastern Florida high school students are. And I believe that if Washington was here with us, he would agree that our students have fulfilled their duties and have enriched the legacy of our district.”

Each spring, the House of Representatives and the Congressional Institute sponsor a nationwide competition as an opportunity for high school students to showcase their talents. Students from Clay, Duval, and Nassau counties submitted their artwork for the competition, and local artistic professionals judged the pieces. The winning artwork will be displayed for one year in Cannon Tunnel.

The winners of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition are listed below.

1st Place Winner: Emma Kruthoff, Peanut Butter Jelly Sandwich, Fernandina Beach High School

2nd Place Winner: Gracie Batten, Urgence, Fernandina Beach High School

3rd Place Winner: Alana Murray, An Offering, Fernandina Beach High School
