Macclenny Nursing and Rehab Center emerged as Baker County’s largest nursing home in the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.
The facility offered 120 available beds—25 more than Baker County’s average for that period—and cared for an average of 103.2 residents.
Macclenny Nursing and Rehab Center received an overall 5-star rating from CMS, well above Florida’s statewide nursing home average of 3.3.
W Frank Wells Nursing Home was next in size in Baker County, with 69 beds available in the same period.
Macclenny Nursing and Rehab Center reported no fines or penalties in the first quarter of 2026.
Baker County had a single for-profit nursing home during this period.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the older adult population is rising nationally, while younger group numbers are falling. From 2020 through 2024, Americans ages 65 and older grew by 13%, while those under 18 declined 1.7%. Over the past century, the country’s older adult population expanded significantly, increasing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 study reported that nearly half of individuals in this age group—approximately 28 million people—are likely to need long-term services and supports. The study also projects that over one-third may ultimately require nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
