The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office announced on April 20 the arrest of Todd Joseph Lee and Lisa Marie Lee in Fernandina Beach following an investigation into allegations of child neglect involving three minors.

Authorities said the investigation began after several teachers reported concerns to the Department of Children and Families about the welfare of the children. During a follow-up at the residence, detectives observed unsanitary conditions including pooling urine, feces smeared on carpets and walls, raw meat left out, scattered trash, roaches throughout the home, dirty dishes, and flies in the sink. One child required specialized medical care with ports that needed regular cleaning, which was not being done.

The Department of Children and Families removed all three children from the home on April 19 due to what officials described as significant medical and environmental concerns. According to investigators, both parents failed to provide essential care such as proper nutrition, clothing, shelter, medication, and medical services necessary for their children’s well-being.

Sheriff Bill Leeper said, “The neglect and deplorable conditions these children endured are unacceptable. We are committed to protecting our most vulnerable and will pursue criminal charges against those responsible for such appalling neglect.”

Both Todd Joseph Lee and Lisa Marie Lee were arrested by deputies from Nassau County Sheriff’s Office and booked into Nassau County Jail.
