U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean hosted law enforcement officers from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office for a special tour of the U.S. Capitol in Washington on May 15, in honor of National Police Week.
The event was held to recognize the dedication and service of Northeast Florida’s law enforcement community. During the visit, Bean delivered remarks on the House Floor to honor officers’ courage and sacrifice, emphasizing his ongoing support for police.
“We owe a debt to all law enforcement officers. These patriots bravely start their shifts to protect our communities without ever knowing if they’ll get back home safely. We all share in the rewards of their service, but it’s our officers who bear the burdens,” said Congressman Bean. “That’s why, during National Police Week, I want to say two words that our incredibly brave patriots don’t hear enough: thank you.”
House Republicans marked National Police Week by passing several bills aimed at supporting law enforcement, including H.R. 6360 (Keeping Violent Offenders Off Our Streets Act), H.R. 5635 (Cashless Bail Reporting Act), H.R. 8365 (Monitor Accountability Act), and H.Con.Res 96 (Expressing support for law enforcement officers). In addition, Bean introduced H.R. 4755, known as the Leo K9 Protection Act, which seeks stronger penalties for those who use deadly weapons against federal police dogs or horses while on duty.
Bean is currently serving in Congress representing Florida’s 4th district after replacing John Rutherford in 2023 according to Congress. He has also served previously in both chambers of Florida’s state legislature according to Congress.
Looking ahead, Bean said he remains committed to supporting local law enforcement through legislation and public recognition.
