City of Jacksonville Beach issued the following announcement.
The Florida Department of Transportation will close a portion of 18th Avenue North to facilitate the construction of sheet pile walls as well as temporary water and sewer connections as part of the State Road A1A (3rd Street) Drainage Project beginning Friday, March 6 at 5 p.m. through Sunday, March 15 at 8 p.m.
Extended road closures and detours will be necessary throughout construction. Drivers attempting to travel eastbound on 18th Avenue will be detoured to 8th Street North onto 15th Avenue North and 7th Street North where they can make a right turn to rejoin 18th Avenue North. Drivers attempting to travel westbound on 18th Avenue North will be detoured to 7th Street North onto 15th Avenue North and 8th Street North where they can make a left turn to rejoin 18th Avenue North.
The State Road A1A (3rd Street) Drainage Project will improve drainage and alleviate flooding often seen during major weather events in some of the most flood-prone areas of Jacksonville Beach.
