University of North Florida issued the following announcement.
Dr. Denise Bossy, UNF associate history professor, and Dr. Keith Ashley, UNF assistant archaeology professor, have spent years researching and rediscovering the story of the original people of northeast Florida. These interdisciplinary faculty members will team up during Indigenous Peoples' Heritage Month to share their perspective on the Indigenous past of northeast Florida in an upcoming lecture and virtual museum tour.
Indigenous Florida: Debunking Myths in Our Region

Bossy and Ashley will debunk some major myths of our region and reveal that the Indigenous communities of northeast Florida were more numerous and powerful than European settlements.

Bossy and Ashley will host a virtual tour of the Our Land: Indigenous Northeast Florida exhibit they curated that explores Jacksonville’s rich Indigenous history and is currently on display at the Beaches Museum in Jacksonville Beach.
Bossy and Ashley are also currently working on a book project that focuses on the history of local Timucua and other Indigenous peoples who lived in northeastern Florida.
