CITY OF PALM COAST: Celebrate the Holiday Season with the City of Palm Coast

Holiday

City of Palm Coast issued the following announcement.

The holiday season is always a bit unique in Florida. Instead of snow and ice, we celebrate with swaying palm trees and balmy 70-degree days. String light-wrapped palms and lei-wearing lawn reindeer are the hallmarks of the season in the southern states.

In a year where we have had to look for new ways to celebrate our special occasions, resiliency and innovation have been key to retaining the feel of our most closely held traditions. While we will miss some things like the Starlight Parade, the Parks & Recreation staff have been working tirelessly to create holiday fun for all!

First, it wouldn't be the holidays in Palm Coast without the Rotary Club of Flagler County's Fantasy Lights!

"This event is really something our community needs right now to give some holiday cheer and get in the spirit of the season," said Bill Butler, Rotary Club member and creator of Fantasy Lights. "Hope to see you at the lights!"

It is returning in 2020 with 53 displays, including four brand-new ones. AdventHealth is the presenting sponsor with the City of Palm Coast as the participating sponsor. The event will kick-off on Saturday, Nov. 28, and run through Wednesday, Dec. 30. Each evening from 6:30-9 p.m. the displays will illuminate Central Park and holiday music will fill the air.

We want you to break out all of your lights, garland, inflatable snowmen and more to participate in our new Holiday Light Fight - don't be fragile with the festiveness! This exciting event encourages Palm Coasters to decorate their houses in fun and unique ways for the holiday season.

Households can enter their property into the competition at palmcoastgov.com/holiday-light-fight. Judging will take place on Dec. 19 and winners will be selected in the following categories: Best in Show, Brightest House, Best Theme and Most Interesting Decoration. Winners will receive lawn signs to mark their yards as major award winners.

Be sure to check out all of the amazing lights that will be on display around town. To make it easy, Parks & Recreation is working with the City's GIS division to create maps that show residents where they can go to see all of the light displays. Each unique neighborhood will have an associated map so that residents won't miss any of the entered lights displays.

We will continue to spread holiday cheer that you can enjoy from the comfort of your home! On Saturday, Nov. 28, get cozy on the sofa, grab a cup of cocoa and enjoy a video walkthrough of the tree lighting and Fantasy Lights. Then choose the day that works for your family and head on down to Central Park to enjoy the festive holiday display.

From your home to Central Park, let's make this holiday season the lightest and brightest!
