The Bolles School issued the following announcement.
Students in Bob Hutchings’ Speech Communications class ended their semester elective by conducting research that led to the crafting of constructive debate cases.
Students either affirmed or negated a variety of resolutions, some more serious than others, Hutchings said. Some affirming cases presented included “video games promote violence and sexism,” “the sale of bottled water should be banned” and “first-world countries should meaningfully and freely assist countries that need help.”
Other students argued the negative position for resolutions such as “limiting terms for U.S. senators and representatives brings more harm than benefit” and “Barbie and Ken are good role models for young children.”
In addition to debating resolutions, students presented informative, persuasive and interpretation of literature speeches throughout the semester.
