Bolles Presence Strong in Another Olympic Games

Bolles School issued the following announcement on July 21.

The opening ceremony officially kicks off the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo on July 23 with the swimming competition running from July 24-August 1. Continuing a presence in the Games since 1972, former Bolles swimmers and coaches look to add to the tradition of success that includes 64 Olympians, 13 medalists and 20 medals. While the opening ceremony marks the start of the Olympics for the world, locally Bolles’ Tarver and Uible pools will host a full day of news broadcasts with First Coast News on July 23.

Names to watch in the Olympic pool from Bolles include gold medalists Ryan Murphy ’13 (USA), Joseph Schooling ’14 (Singapore) and Caeleb Dressel (former Sharks club member/USA); 2016 Olympian Santo Condorelli ’13 (Italy) and McKenna DeBever (former Sharks club member/Peru).

On the pool deck, alumnus and former Bolles Assistant Coach Anthony Nesty ’87 and former Bolles Head Coach Gregg Troy are both serving as assistant coaches for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team. Former Bolles Head Coach Sergio Lopez Miro is serving as an assistant coach for Singapore. Former Bolles Head Coach Rick Bishop is serving as head coach for Hong Kong.

On the San Jose Campus, Bolles will welcome the First Coast News team on July 23 as they broadcast live from the aquatic facilities. Interviews of Bolles coaches, swimmers and parents begin at 5:15 a.m. with current Bolles Head Coach Peter Verhoef. Verhoef will be interviewed live again at 6:15 a.m. and then Bolles swimmers will be live at 6:45 a.m. During the evening broadcast, beginning at 5 p.m., interviews will include Ryan Murphy’s parents, Bolles Head Age Group Coach Dale Porter, more swimmers and President and Head of School Tyler Hodges.
