Bolles School issued the following announcement on Aug. 31.

Bolles alumnus Mac Jones ’17 has been named the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots as the National Football League wraps up the preseason. Jones will take the field in his first regular season game on Sunday, September 12 when the Patriots host the Miami Dolphins at 4:25 p.m.

Jones was drafted with the 15th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by New England following a stellar final collegiate season in which he led the Crimson Tide to national and SEC titles and earned several individual accolades. In three preseason games, Jones completed 36 of 52 passes for 389 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. The Patriots cut former NFL MVP and three-time Pro Bowl player Cam Newton who was competing with Jones for the starting QB role.
