Kappa Alpha Order fraternity raises $20,000 for track chair for disabled veteran

2

University of North Florida issued the following announcement on Sept. 8.

The brothers of the Zeta Nu chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity at the University of North Florida worked together to raise $20,000 to give an all-terrain track wheelchair to Chris Scott, a disabled veteran. Working closely with The Independence Fund, the fraternity spent the last six months raising funds for the chair through events like a car wash and a fishing tournament.

The Hospital corpsman third class Chris Scott enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in July 2004 and served with the 3/2 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines from 2006 to 2011, deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan multiple times. After being wounded by an IED blast and suffering several spinal injuries, Scott medically retired in January 2012. Scott expressed his sincere gratitude for the fraternity and the generous gift.

The fraternity has set a goal to gift a track chair to another disabled veteran next year.
