The Bolles School issued the following announcement on October 14.

During a recent trip to the campus iLab, Grade 2 students on the Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach Campus merged lessons in Language Arts with theories in engineering.

They have been learning about folk tales and fractured folk tales with teachers Kim Loving and Katherine Bole. Two of their most enjoyable reads were “The Three Little Pigs” and “The Three Wolves and the Big Bad Pig.”

With concepts of huffing and puffing top of mind, students went to the iLab to further the lesson. There, they were tasked with building houses with doors. Students had different materials available with which to build these structures with the goal of building a roof that would withstand blows from the big bad wolf (fan). Through the lesson, students learned that dense, compact materials helped keep the pigs inside safe – even by the hair of their chinny chin chin! For more photos, visit our online gallery here.
