UNF will ‘Take Back the Night’ for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

University of North Florida issued the following announcement on Oct. 20.

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the University of North Florida Women's Center and Alpha Chi Omega sorority will host the annual Take Back the Night event on Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at UNF.

The program will feature a special ceremony and a cross-campus march starting on The Green in front of the Fine Arts Center to Osprey Plaza in front of the John A. Delaney Student Union. All participants are encouraged to wear purple or a Take Back the Night t-shirt. For more information, view the Office of Diversity and Inclusion Calendar.  

At UNF, the Victim Advocacy Program serves as a resource and support service for anyone in the University community who has been a victim of actual or threatened violence. The services offered range from emotional support to assistance navigating the criminal justice system. All members of the UNF community can utilize the 24-hour crisis helpline by calling (904) 620-1010. Learn more about UNF’s Victim Advocacy Program.

Additional resources include the Hubbard House, Jacksonville's domestic violence shelter with a 24-hour hotline at (904) 354-3114. Hubbard House also partners with local service organizations to secure free boarding for pets while the victim is in the shelter.

For assistance connecting to domestic and dating violence resources in your local Florida community, contact the Florida Domestic Violence Hotline at 1(800) 500-1119. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is also available for assistance at 1(800) 779-SAFE.
