City of Jacksonville Beach issued the following announcement on Nov. 18.
The demolition for Sunshine Playground has begun and the demolition crew is making quick work of deconstruction!
This will allow the installation team to get in and begin working on the foundation of our new playground. Please continue to follow us here or on our Jax Beach Parks and Recreation Facebook page for regular updates.
Many have been asking about the fate of our mermaid archway. She is a truly iconic piece and we plan to keep her! We are working with some local artists (some from the original build) to give her a little TLC and get her ready for our next generation playground!
If you have a fence post from the original build, please contact us at 904-247-6236 to find out how and where to pick it up. All bricks and tiles from the original build will remain in the new playground!
