Richardson ’22 Meets NASA Astronaut at Florida Forum

4

Bolles School issued the following announcement on Nov. 18.

The Women’s Board of Wolfson Children’s Hospital named Bolles senior Taylor Richardson ’22 a Women’s Board Star Student. As part of the honor, Richardson was invited to attend the Florida Forum November 17 to hear retired Major General Charles F. Bolden Jr, a former NASA astronaut and administrator, speak to the community. She also was given the opportunity to ask Bolden the first question during the event's question-and-answer session.

Richardson also goes by the name Astronaut Starbright and is a passionate and world regarded advocate for girls in STEM. She was chosen as one of People magazine’s eight 2021 Girls Changing the World and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of getting more young women – particularly young women of color – into the sciences, space and robotics. Since it is her personal aspiration to be the first Black woman to go to Mars, Richardson’s attendance at Bolden’s presentation is particularly meaningful. Bolden served as the first Black administrator of the NASA from 2009 to 2017.

Bolden is the first speaker of the Women’s Board 2021-22 series, which also includes talks from four-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Terry Bradshaw and country music legend, Tim McGraw.
