University of North Florida recently issued the following announcement.
The University of North Florida is seeking artists from the Osprey community to create an innovative permanent outdoor gallery and take part in the University’s new phase of its commitment to the natural environment with the opening of the UNF Botanical Gardens next spring. Linking green spaces across campus including the Sawmill Slough preserve, Robert W. Loftin Nature Trails and over 20 individual gardens, the UNF Botanical Gardens will create a harmonious integration of human-made and natural spaces on campus.
An outdoor art gallery of large-format, 2-D prints on vinyl mesh created from designs made by UNF students and alumni will be curated to compliment the various green spaces and to help add a unique element to the Botanical Garden’s natural beauty. The installation will center around the theme “Culture of Nature,” an examination of the ways humanity intersects with the natural environment.
UNF Botanical Garden volunteers will sponsor cash prizes for awards granted to works of Excellence and Merit, Juror’s Choice and Best in Show. The winning visual works will be selected by the gallery’s juror and announced at the opening reception.
Artists may submit a maximum of three works for consideration and all submissions are due by Jan. 10, 2022. For more information on submission guidelines and to view a collection of inspiration pieces, visit the website.
