City of Jacksonville Beach recently issued the following announcement.
A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., (CALEA) will be conducting a virtual site-based assessment to examine all aspects of the Jacksonville Beach Police Department’s policies, procedures, management, operations, and support services, Gene Paul Smith, Chief of Police, announced today. The assessment is scheduled March 28-30, 2022.
Verification by the team that the Jacksonville Beach Police Department meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain re-accreditation – a highly-prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence, he said.
As part of the site-based assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Monday, March 28th, at 4:00 pm. The session will be virtual, through zoom link:

If an individual cannot speak during the public information session but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, he/she may do so by telephone. The public may call (904) 247-6166 on Tuesday, March 29th, between the hours of 1 00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. These telephone calls will not be screened or recorded.
Telephone comments as well as participation during the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. The Jacksonville Beach Police Department is required to comply with 484 standards in order to gain re-accredited status, Chief Gene Paul Smith said. “As we reach our 27th year of being nationally accredited, our citizens can be assured their police department continues to meet the nationally recognized best practices in law enforcement. We are proud of the level of professionalism the accreditation process brings to our police department and our community.”
