Bolles Wellness Seminar Spotlights Mental Health

13

The Bolles School is committed to providing students with an environment that challenges them to grow while supporting their mental health every step of the way. That’s one of the core reasons why Upper School San Jose Campus teacher Tom Hopkins invited mental health advocate David Minardi, who struggles with depression and bipolar, to speak with students taking the Bolles Wellness Seminar this summer.

Minardi’s interactive, 90-minute presentation encouraged students to reflect on their personal mental health and identify influences that have the power to “drain, maintain or replenish” them. The students broke into small groups to hold more intimate conversations as they formed a deeper understanding of their classmates’ struggles and perspectives. To wrap the class, students brainstormed different ways these conversations could bolster the culture on campus and positively impact their everyday lives.

Minardi is father to Bolles alumnus, Stephen Minardi ’16. To learn more about his compelling journey and inspiring message, visit the Minardi United website. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health or suicidal thoughts, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
