The University of North Florida’s Art Galleries and PACT research project will participate in the Alzheimer’s Association’s “The Longest Day” campaign with the opening of the “Forms of Knowing: Cultural Documents Considering Alzheimer's Research” exhibit. The opening reception takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, at UNF’s Lufrano Intercultural Gallery, and the exhibit will run through November 11.
The Alzheimer’s Association chose the June 21 summer solstice, the longest day of light, to annually invite people from across the world to fight the darkness of Alzheimer's through an awareness activity.
Co-curated by Jessica Borusky, UNF Galleries director and instructor, and Jenny Hager, sculpture professor, this two-part exhibit features artwork concerning research and interpersonal connections between Alzheimer’s studies and human impact. Artists Ellie Brown and Rosemarie Oakman are featured in the 2022 exhibit. For more information on this and other upcoming gallery exhibits, visit the Gallery of Art website.
This program is an interdisciplinary collaboration inspired by the PACT Alzheimer’s research project at UNF, led by Dr. Jody Nicholson, psychology associate professor, and supported by the UNF HARP Grant and STARS Research Award. The PACT study is currently recruiting volunteers for the study that is using computerized brain training exercises to determine if the risk of cognitive impairment and dementia such as Alzheimer’s disease can be reduced.
