City honors former Commissioners, Vice Mayors

American flag at City Hall will be flown in their honor

On Monday, July 11 and on Tuesday, July 12, the City of St. Augustine will fly the American flag in honor of two former City Commissioners, Errol Jones and Raymond Connor, respectively.

This is part of the City’s protocol to honor deceased former city commissioners and other notable figures.

Among the many projects and initiatives that came before him on the City Commission, Jones championed the Riberia Street paving project, underground infrastructure improvements, the revitalization of the Galimore Center, and the implementation of utility service in West Augustine.  He was also instrumental in bringing to fruition the Andrew Young and Foot Soldiers memorials that remain in the Plaza de la Constitución today.Jones was elected to the St. Augustine City Commission in 2002 and served until 2012, including serving as Vice Mayor from 2008-1010.

Connor was elected to the St. Augustine City Commission in 1998 and served until 2002. He also served as Vice Mayor from 2001-2002.

Each flag will be gathered, folded, and presented to a family member at a future City Commission meeting.
