Beach Volleyball Adds Five to 2023 Roster

Coming off the winningest season in program history, Jacksonville Beach Volleyball head coach Dylan Hough has announced the addition of five student-athletes to the roster, who will arrive at JU in the fall of 2022.

 

The new group of 'Phins is highlighted by two transfers and three freshmen.

 

"We are so excited to welcome this incoming class to JU," Hough said. "There's a great mix of youth and experience, and every single one in this class can have an immediate impact on our program. They are all wonderful people, terrific student-athletes, and great additions to the Sandy 'Phins!"

Aly Freeland

Hometown/Previous School: Tallahassee, Fla. | Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Height: 5'11"

Intended Major: Biology

Hough's Comments: "Aly had a tremendous juniors beach career, before she went to Embry-Riddle to play indoor. We're excited for her to be back in the sand with us this year, as she will add some physicality and veteran leadership to the team."

 

Julia Gunner

Hometown/Previous School: Newbury Park, Calif. | Moorpark College

Height: 5'9"

Intended Major: Kinesiology

Hough's Comments: "Julia is a terrific student-athlete from SoCal. She comes from a volleyball family and had a great year at Moorpark that I believe will translate well to her time here at JU."

 

Alizé Lemieux

Hometown/Previous School: Ottawa, Ontario | Blyth Academy

Height: 5'7"

Intended Major: Visual Design

Hough's Comments: "Alizé is a multi-talented young woman who has excelled in every area as a student-athlete. She spent some time down at Altitude Academy training with very successful, professional level coaches and is a dynamic athlete who will make an immediate impact for us this year."

 

Cameron Knifton

Hometown/Previous School: Toronto, Ontario | Malvern Collegiate  

Height: 5'11"

Intended Major: Biology

Hough's Comments: "Cameron is a rangy athlete that played for Team Ontario and has a lot of high-level experience. Another high character young woman who is superb in the classroom who will help us out tremendously in all areas this year."

 

Katie Martinez

Hometown/Previous School: Astoria, N.Y. | St. John's Prep  

Height: 5'8"

Intended Major: Education

Hough's Comments: "Katie is a fierce and fiery competitor. She had an excellent juniors career and is a fantastic student in the classroom and on the court. Katie played what seemed like every juniors tournament in the northeast and we're excited to see what she can do at the next level."
