Darrell-Hicks Signs Professional Contract With Angels

40

Jacksonville University baseball alum Michael Darrell-Hicks signed a professional contract with the Los Angeles Angles on Tuesday.

The graduate-transfer righthanded pitcher excelled in his lone year in a Dolphin uniform in 2022.

After four years at Western Kentucky, Darrell-Hicks transferred to JU and made a splash from the very beginning. In his first career start in the green and gold against #10 Florida State, he struck out the first six batters he faced, including an immaculate second inning, a game that the Dolphins would go on to win.

He closed his JU career in similar sensational fashion, starting the season finale in the ASUN Baseball Championship vs. Eastern Kentucky. He struck out the side in the second and third innings, and used strikeouts to strand multiple runners on in the first and fourth. He finished his day with a career-best 10 strikeouts.

Cementing himself as the Saturday starter in conference play, he won five games, racking up 82 strikeouts, second-most on the team, over 72 innings of work. He was also part of a pitching staff that set the program record for most strikeouts in a season and K/9 in program history.

He joins fellow pitchers Tyler Vogel and Mason Adams, who were drafted in last week's MLB Draft, as the latest Dolphins to enter the professional ranks. In total, 10 former Dolphins are active in the minor leagues, with Austin Hays a starter with the Baltimore Orioles as well.
