Open house also offered for contractors
The City of St. Augustine will offer several open house workshops with Quality Engineering and Surveying, LLC (QES), a consultant hired to provide Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) counseling to residents and contractors. A total of four workshops will be held in The Alcazar Room of City Hall, located at 75 King Street on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 30 and 31, as follows:
- Tuesday, August 30, 6:00pm, Homeowners
- Wednesday, August 31, 11:00am, Homeowners
- Wednesday, August 31, 3:30pm, Contractors
- Wednesday, August 31, 6:00pm, Homeowners
- Thursday, September 1, All Day, on-site visits, individual appointments/consultations
QES and city staff assisted residents during the 2021 FMA application period. “Having Quality Engineering on board allows us to provide the best assistance and support to our residents,” stated Richard “Buddy” Schauland, the City’s Building Official and Floodplain Manager. “Their understanding of the FMA program and the intricacies of the application process really gives us the opportunity to maximize the potential financial return for our applicants.”
Every year there is an allocation of federal funding that can be applied for and reviewed by FEMA. In fiscal year 2021 the FMA Program had $70M allocated towards community flood mitigation; however, funding in 2022 is anticipated to exceed that when the Notice of Funding is announced for the program.
All workshops will be live-streamed here and available on-demand the following day for viewing. Additional information, including checklists and application documents, can be found here.
