Due to recent coastal erosion events happening within Flagler Beach, today, August 26th, 2022, the City is placing signage warning the public of isolated hazardous conditions in various spots along the coastline. Three (3) of the City’s fifty-two (52) dune walkovers/beach access points are being closed until conditions improve. The locations that are closed include the ramp near the intersection of Route 100 and State Road A1A, and the dune walkovers located at 14th Street South and at 15th Street South. The City would encourage citizens to access the beach through the many other dune walkovers that are open and available.
The public is being encouraged to be especially sensitive to the role that a healthy dune system plays in protecting the community infrastructure and State Road A1A. Local officials are urging the public’s cooperation in not traversing through the dune system. The dunes along the Atlantic coastline, especially within the jurisdiction of Flagler Beach, serve to protect the public beaches and critical infrastructure along the coastline.
City Manager, Mr. William Whitson, added, “We are asking for the public’s understanding and patience in closely observing local conditions and not venturing into areas with caution signage for their own protection.”
