Vandermoten Closes Strong as Dolphins Conclude Greame McDowell Invitational

Jacksonville University men's golf finished the Graeme McDowell Invitational with a sixth-place finish at the RTJ Golf Trail at Silver Lakes on Tuesday.

Alexandre Vandermoten was the low-scorer for the Dolphins on the day, firing a 2-under 70. His 29-spot climb on the leaderboard made him the biggest mover in the field on the final day of the event. He made par on four of his first five holes before a birdie and eagle in his last four of the front nine. After a bogey on hole 10, he made six pars and two more birdies to end his day with a top-30 finish, T28.

Filip Raza ended as JU's best finisher in the event, coming in T21. He sank seven-straight pars to begin the day, and had only one blemish on his card through his first 12 holes. He added a birdie on hole 15 before closing out the round.

Freshman Tomas Hjalsted finished tied with Vandermoten on the leaderboard in his first collegiate event. He battled an up-and-down day, sinking four birdies, three on the front nine in his last round of the week.

Jack Neill started strong, birdieing his first hole of the day before rattling off seven straight pars. After a rough stretch when he made the turn, he closed the day with two pars and two birdies in his last five holes. He climbed 10 spots on the leaderboard in his final round.

Josef Hacker made three pars to open the day and finished with nine total to go with one birdie, while Joseph Sullivan made seven pars and two birdies on Tuesday.

Vandermoten finished the event tied for the fourth-best score on Par-4s overall, with Hjalsted just a stroke behind him. Raza shot even par on Par-5s for the week, and led the team with 34 total pars. Sullivan had a team-best 10 birdies in the event, fourth-most in the field, while Vandermoten made one of just eight eagles scored for the week.

In just under two weeks' time, the team heads back north to compete in The Carolina Cup in Spartanburg, S.C., hosted by USC Upstate Oct. 9-11.
