Open House to be held Tuesday, April 18, 2023

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced that construction on a drainage improvement project at the intersection of State Road 5A (King Street) and State Road A1A (Avenida Menendez) in downtown St. Augustine is scheduled to begin this month.

Superior Construction was selected to complete the $4.2 million project, which includes replacing and adding a drainpipe on King Street under Avenida Menendez, up to the seawall. Improvements of this project also include constructing a concrete masonry wall system, new timber pergola, metal and concrete stanchions with guard railing, curb and gutter, sidewalk upgrades, bicycle path, lighting, asphalt resurfacing, and other incidental construction. New landscaping will be installed in the area once the project is completed.

FDOT will host a construction open house for this project on Tuesday, April 18 in The Alcazar Room, City Hall, 75 King Street. The informal open house will give the public the opportunity to learn about the upcoming project and discuss details with FDOT staff and engineers.

Interested parties may drop by anytime between 4:00pm – 6:00pm to view project maps and talk with the project team. The open house will also be accessible online or by phone at (213) 929-4212, access code 839-428-672. Drivers can expect detours in the immediate area as the project enters its final phases. Completion is estimated in late 2023, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
