WASHINGTON—On May 18, 2023, U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04) and U.S. Congresswoman Kat Cammack (FL-03) introduced legislation to rename the Interlachen, Florida, post office in honor of U.S. Postal Service carrier Pamela “Pam” Rock who was tragically killed last year while delivering mail in northeast Florida.

“Pamela had a beautiful servant’s heart. It was obvious in the way she lived her life. She was a committed and dedicated sister, aunt, and friend to everyone, said Congressman Bean. “While her time on this earth was tragically cut short, she served the U.S. Post Service with passion and integrity. Designating the Interlachen Post Office in her name will honor her legacy in the community she loved.”

“Pleased to join Rep. Bean and my other Florida colleagues in working to rename the Interlachen, FL post office after Ms. Pamela Jane Rock,” said Congresswoman Cammack. “Last Congress when we served Putnam County, our entire community was heartbroken by her loss, and we cannot think of a more fitting way to honor her than to formally put her name on a post office that represented the job she loved.”

“The Rock Family deeply appreciates the action of the Congressman Bean to name the U.S. Post Office in Interlachen, Florida in memory of our dear sister, Pamela Jane Rock. This provides us some comfort since her tragic death,” said the Rock Family.

BACKGROUND:

Rock, 61, was fatally attacked by a pack of vicious dogs when her USPS vehicle broke down the morning of August 21, 2022, in Putnam County.According to the US Postal Service, more than 5,400 postal employees were attacked by dogs in the United States in 2021. Florida was one of the top 10 states for dog bites, with 201 reported incidents last year, according to USPS.

This legislation would rename the United States Postal Facility located at 100 Mathe Avenue in Interlachen, Florida the “Pamela Jane Rock Post Office Building.”
