U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04) introduced the “Cutting Unobligated Tumultuous Spending Act” (CUTS Act) today in Washington, aiming to reduce federal spending by $95 billion. The act targets wasteful funding and Green New Deal initiatives to offset a foreign aid package enacted earlier this year.

Bean emphasized the necessity of fiscal responsibility amidst prolonged inflation, which has persisted above 3% for 38 consecutive months. He highlighted the national debt surpassing $34 trillion as a critical issue that demands immediate action.

“Americans are tired of the federal government using their paychecks as an ATM. Families across the nation pay their debts and live within their means, and the federal government should do the same,” said Congressman Bean. “While protecting our interests abroad is necessary for national security, we must turn our attention to tackling one of the greatest threats to America: our debt. The CUTS Act puts Americans first and changes the status quo by slashing wasteful Green New Deal initiatives and clawing back unspent Covid funds.”

The bill's original cosponsors include Representatives Brian Babin (TX-36), Jim Banks (IN-03), Andy Biggs (AZ-05), Dan Bishop (NC-08), Lauren Boebert (CO-03), Eric Burlison (MO-07), Mike Collins (GA-10), Eli Crane (AZ-02), Jeff Duncan (SC-03), Neal Dunn (FL-02), Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05), Matt Gaetz (FL-01), Bob Good (VA-05), Lance Gooden (TX-05), Glenn Grothman (WI-06), Andy Harris (MD-01), Doug LaMalfa (CA-01), Morgan Luttrell (TX-08), Tom McClintock (CA-05), Dan Meuser (PA-09), Mary Miller (IL-15), Cory Mills (FL-07), Blake Moore (UT-01), Troy Nehls (TX-22), Ralph Norman (SC-05), Burgess Owens (UT-04), Bill Posey (FL-08), Keith Self (TX-03), Brad Wenstrup (OH-02) Russ Fulcher(ID 1 )and Josh Brecheen(OK 2).

Brent Gardner, Chief Government Affairs Officer at Americans for Prosperity, expressed support for Bean’s initiative. “On behalf of the millions of AFP’s activists across the country, we are proud to support Representative Bean’s efforts to bring accountability to wasteful, duplicative, and outdated programs on the Federal level. As Congress faces more pressure to align spending with tax revenues, we look forward to seeing Congressman Bean’s leadership in this arena.”
