U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean and members of the Florida Delegation have sent a bipartisan letter to President Joe Biden, urging approval of Florida’s request for a pre-landfall emergency declaration for 61 counties ahead of Tropical Storm Helene.

Tropical Storm Helene is projected to make landfall in Florida as a category 3 hurricane later this week. The National Weather Service forecasts that the storm will bring high winds, heavy rainfall, life-threatening storm surges, and a strong potential for isolated tornado activity across the state.

“Floridians are no strangers to hurricanes, but our communities need federal assistance to quickly bounce back,” said Congressman Bean. “With Helene bringing potentially devastating levels of rainfall and strong winds, this emergency declaration will provide critical resources necessary to ensure the safety of Floridians.”
