U.S. Congressmen Aaron Bean of Florida and Andy Ogles of Tennessee have introduced the "Americans First Disaster Relief Act." The proposed legislation aims to allocate an additional $10 billion to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for disaster relief efforts. This funding would be redirected from money initially set aside for hiring more IRS agents.

Congressman Bean emphasized the severe impact of recent hurricanes in the southeast, stating, “Floridians will not soon forget this hurricane season as the devastation across the southeast is simply unimaginable. I’m pleased to provide additional resources for the Disaster Relief Fund to help those impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.” He added that his focus is on ensuring federal assistance reaches families, small business owners, and communities in need after these storms.

The bill has received support from other representatives, including Neil Dunn and Vern Buchanan, both from Florida.
