On December 11, 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2024. The legislation includes priorities set by U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean for Northeast Florida.

The WRDA 2024 empowers the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to execute vital water resources development projects and studies. These initiatives are essential for sustaining the nation's economy, bolstering commerce both domestically and internationally, safeguarding communities and businesses from natural disasters, and preserving quality of life.

"From JAXPORT to Fernandina Beach, I was proud to play a key role in crafting WRDA and be a voice for Northeast Floridians," stated Congressman Bean. "This bill is a massive victory for the Fourth District, as it enhances environmental restoration efforts at Fort George and supports a new dry dock in Jacksonville."

Key priorities highlighted by Congressman Bean include:

- A new feasibility study authorization for the Fort George Inlet erosion control project in Jacksonville aimed at reducing or eliminating land loss at Little Talbot Island State Park.

- Construction approval for a long-delayed dry dock facility at Jacksonville Harbor to service military, recreational, and other vessels.

- A provision preventing the USACE from imposing unexpected perpetual easement requirements on hurricane risk reduction project sponsors.

These measures aim to address specific needs within Florida's communities effectively.
