Congressman Aaron Bean has reintroduced the DRAIN THE SWAMP Act, a bill targeting government waste by relocating federal workers. The legislation aims to move nearly a third of federal employees outside the Washington, D.C. area.
The bill serves as the House counterpart to similar legislation introduced by Senator Joni Ernst earlier this year. Congressman Bean expressed his commitment to ensuring that "the government works for the people," stating, “The swamp is thick and deep here in Crazy Town, and I’m here to drain it.”
Senator Ernst supported the initiative, saying, “Washington has resembled a ghost town for the last four years. Bureaucrats have shown they clearly don’t want to work in D.C., and I am making their dreams come true."
The act would authorize the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to relocate 30% of federal agency staff outside of Washington's metropolitan area. Those remaining would be required to work in person full-time. The OMB would also sell unnecessary office space resulting from these relocations.
