A wildfire burned more than 500 acres of woodland along Conner Nelson Road and Bay Road in west Hilliard, Nassau County, between April 17 and April 19. The fire was brought under control by a coordinated response from the Nassau County Fire Rescue Department, the Florida Forest Service, and the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said there were no injuries or loss of life as a result of the fire. The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control, evacuation guidance, road closures, and security for evacuated properties. Off-duty personnel were called in to support firefighting efforts to ensure that regular operations could continue without interruption.

Residents of Hilliard and members of the Ballpark Association organized a volunteer effort within hours to donate food, warm meals, and beverages to firefighters and responders working at the scene. “This incredible outpouring of community support was deeply appreciated,” officials said.

Authorities reminded residents that Nassau County remains under a Local State of Emergency due to extreme drought conditions. Burning is currently prohibited throughout the county.

“We are truly lucky and blessed to live and work in a community that comes together like this,” officials said.
